Quick Ottoman Update

Sorry I have been absent from posting, once again life has gotten in the way. Baby daughter graduated from high school last weekend, we have had company on and off since then. Fathers Day gatherings and tomorrow is my social security hearing that I have been waiting over two years for.

I am hoping to settle back down to earth soon and actually work on a project or two. It's amazing how stress can be so paralyzing at times. I've spent many hours warming the couch with my backside trying to recuperate.

I did manage to throw together this little ottoman that I picked up at a yard sale for $5.00. It is very similar to one I did awhile back...the same lovely mauve velvet as before.

This time for the after I went with one of the many interesting coffee sacks I picked up recently. It actually has turquoise blue in it which is so popular right now. I primed and painted the legs white and distressed them. Then I simply stapled the coffee bag right over the old fabric.

To finish it off I scrounged through a bunch of old crocheted items I got from my Grandmother. I found this long, straight, thin piece (not sure what it used to be) and thought it would be interesting paired with the roughness of the burlap. Hopefully it will disappear from my booth as quickly as the last one did.

From Dumpster To Diner

Awhile back I bragged about all the goodies my hubby and I found on the side of the road. Among them was this set of four little chairs. They were in pretty sad shape, but they had possibilities.

Lately I have had great luck with retro dinette sets in my booth. I try to keep them around for a quick fill in when I sell things faster than I can paint. When I saw these little chairs I envisioned them paired with a small grey cracked ice table I found recently on Craigslist.

Most of the furniture I have sold down at the shop had gone to young adults 20-25 age range. They seem to love the vintage pieces, especially with a new bright color. They appreciate the lines, but don't want "grandmas" furniture.

With that in mind I found this kitchy fabric on a recent trip to Joann's with these chairs in mind. I knew I wanted to paint the chairs grey to match up with the table and let the fabric be the pop of color. I like things that are assembled and not so matchy matchy, it tells a more interesting story.

I first had to remove the broken caning and glue some of the joints back together. I bought a piece of mdf to use for the new seats. I just layed the chairs upside down and traced them. Add some batting, cover them with my fabric using my handy staple gun and attach them to my newly painted chairs...done!

Now to just stage the chairs and table together using just the right accessories and hope it is the perfect fit for someone in their little retro kitchen.
