More Lives Than A Cat

As the clock ticks into day two of 2012 I am scurrying around trying to catch up all the things I should have been busy with at the end of 2011...in other words, I am behind.

I sold quite a bit over the holidays and my booth is looking a little shopped, well empty. I guess this is a good problem to have, but it is kind of hard to sell things that are still sitting half done in my garage. I mean really, who wants to shop at a store that looks half empty? Okay, enough beating myself up. I am only one woman after all.

The dresser I am sharing with you today has been around the block more than a few times. It was given to my mother when I was a young girl by some family friends. I believe it was stained wood at that time and my mother painted it white with pink drawers for her "little girl" aka:me.

Many years later, I was a tween and way to cool for a pink dresser. No problem, crafty resourceful mom painted the drawers yellow to match my teenage room which was decorated with posters of Donny Osmond, Shaun Cassidy, and Scott Baio (it was the 80's after all). It sufficed until I got married and left home at the ripe ole' age of 18.

Flash forward a couple years and my new family of two becomes a family of three and my new baby daughter needs a place to put all her pretty clothes. Ta, Da! The yellow and white dresser that mom has stored makes a reappearance in her room. Add another addition to the family and the dresser is just to small.

No problem, dear hubby could use some extra storage in the garage, but he is way to cool for a yellow and white dresser. He takes it upon himself to paint the drawers yet again. This time he chooses the sand textured spray paint in green and black...it has to be ugly...oh I mean manly if it's going to hold fishing gear.

And now, several years later two of three children have left home with furniture and baby daughter sure could use a dresser. Solution? Bring the hideous manly dresser back into the house, but not without first transforming it yet again.

Praise god for whoever invented gel stripper because I had to use a lot of it to get all those layers of paint off. I apologize for not having before pictures, this was all before my blogging days. Baby daughter is 17 and going through what I like to call "her black phase". Black clothes, black bedding, and now a black dresser. I base coated it with black , dry brushed it with silver and then applied some really awesome rub on wall decals that we originally bought for the wall. She thinks it is pretty cool, especially since all her friends wish it was theirs.

What will it's next life be? only time will tell.

What a beautiful after. I used some of those same decals on a pink dresser, but I really like yours better.

That dresser turned out great! I can just imagine what the sand paint in green and black was like - ugh! Love the use of silver and black and the wall decals were a brilliant idea! Glad I found your blog through Debbiedoo's Newbie Party! I'm now following! Take care, Leena
